Groban Happy To See Music ‘Get Its Due’ At Oscars

This year at the Oscars, musical performances played a large role, and opera singer Josh Groban, one of many celebs attending the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar-viewing party, couldn’t have been more excited to see music get the recognition it deserves from the iconic awards show.

“I’m glad that they’re actually putting a focus on making sure the song category gets it’s due,” said Groban, 33. “When I had a song that was nominated, it was kind of an afterthought… But music is a huge part of film. As a fellow musician I’m glad that they’re using that as a big part of it this year.”

Groban’s Believe, which he performed and which was written by Glen Ballard and Alan Silvestri, was nominated for Best Original Song at the 77th Academy Awards in 2005 for its use in the film The Polar Express. Groban performed the song live with Beyonce during the show.

Josh Groban Sings ‘Special Song’ to Salute Jimmy Kimmel on 2000th Episode

(x003) – Television > 2014 > Jimmy Kimmel Live – February 24, 2014

On the night Seth Meyers made his debut as “Late Night” host, Jimmy Kimmel celebrated a milestone as his own talk show hit 2000 episodes on Monday, February 24. In his opening monologue, Kimmel made it clear that he didn’t have any surprises for his audience, saying, “You know, if this was Oprah’s 2,000th show, you guys here in the studio audience would probably walk away with some cool stuff. But it’s not Oprah [Winfrey], it’s me, so you won’t.”

But Kimmel got a nice treat from Josh Groban, who prepared a “special song” to celebrate Kimmel’s 2000th show. He wanted to look back at what the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host has done in 11 years, but he apparently didn’t do some research first since he kept making the wrong references.

Groban mistook Kimmel for Matthew Perry, Batman, Octomom a.k.a. Nadya Suleman and perhaps a detective character on “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” as he mentioned the things he thought Kimmel had done on the talk show.

“Jimmy is f**king Matt Damon,” Groban also sang. “No, no, it was not Matt Damon, it was Ben Affleck,” Kimmel protested. “You were actually in that video. You should know that it wasn’t Matt Damon, it was Ben Affleck… that I f**ked.”

After completing the performance, Groban said, “We’re gonna miss you Jimmy. We’re gonna miss you a lot,” but Kimmel said he’s not going anywhere.

Josh is Selling his Malibu House

One look inside Josh Groban’s sprawling Malibu digs and we’re having a major case of house envy.

Catt Sadler joined realtor Chris Cortazzo, giving E! a tour of the singer’s amazing home. And if you like what you see, we’ve got good news: it’s for sale!

Of course, it’s not exactly cheap—so you’ll have to have some pretty deep pockets. Fabulous homes come with fabulous price tags, after all. So what is the purchase price, you ask? A cool $5.47 million.

But, it’s clear these digs are worth the steep price. Catt and Chris tour through the entire home, including the sprawling kitchen with a Viking stove, the awesome entertainment room, the master bathroom (complete with a steam shower, of course), and the master suite that opens up to a balcony with a million-dollar view.

They also walk through the beautiful grounds, and Catt and Chris actually climb up in one of the stunning coral trees on the property. “I feel like this is our prom photo!” joked Catt.

But all jokes aside: this place is truly amazing. And of course no tour of Josh Groban’s house is complete without a stop in the studio. We’ve always wanted a recording studio of our own! Not that we sing, or anything. But it would be so cool.

Josh Groban teaching course at Stanford University

Stanford University is bringing Warner Music Group’s stars from the concert hall to the (online) lecture hall.

The California private school has teamed up with the music company for a free online course that will teach creative problem solving to anyone who wants to sign up.
The six-week class will feature appearances from Warner Music’s artists, including Josh Groban, Jason Mraz, Tegan and Sara, Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda and Fun.’s Nate Ruess.
Stanford and Warner Music will officially announce the class Thursday.

According to its webpage, the course will use music as a “tool for unlocking creative potential,” and each session will focus on a different aspect of creativity. It’s not necessarily for musicians.

“All of the projects in this experiential course will deal with some aspect of music, including listening, creating and sharing,” the course description reads. “No musical talent is required — just an interest in exploring the role that music plays in our lives.”

The course, dubbed “Creativity: Music to My Ears,” begins on April 2 and is open for registration through Stanford’s website. It includes a series of weekly projects that should take around five hours to complete.
